Late into 2017, I've rediscovered my love for music. I live for words, and sometimes those words find themselves entwined with sound. One of my three major dreams was to be a singer-songwriter, and I got to have a taste of how that feels at a place called DITO.

THE PLACE
Located in Marikina, DITO: Bahay ng Sining is a haven for artistic souls. Owned by Jay – a multimedia artist, the place is rife with creativity.

The floor recreates Van Gogh's Starry Night. There's a sign that reads "Tahimik lang po. Sumisining." The place regularly holds performances, from theatrical productions to improv sessions. It also doubles as a gaming hub, with a collection of board and card games available for guests to use.

Personally, I come for Starving For Art – a monthly platform that allows artists to share their craft. Be it spoken poetry, dance, magic, comedy, music, SFA will welcome you with open arms. It's free to perform and to watch. However, DITO, is first and foremost a restaurant, so patrons are encouraged to order in-house.

THE FOOD
DITO serves a no-nonsense menu. I had the Carbonara (Php150) which tasted like something I'd cook at home. Not at all intimidating. There's also the Iced Coffe a la mode (Php100). And the Giant Chicken Taco (Php180) which is perfect for sharing. There's also the Potato Three-Way (Php200) that has chips, fries, and mojos. The place also carries a selection of beers.

To be honest, the food is mediocre and quite expensive, but you do come here for the experience.

THE SERVICE
Serving time could take a while, but you won't really mind because there're games and performances. If you're a geek or an artist or both, this is a great place to meet like-minded people.

FINAL THOUGHTS
DITO doesn't feel like a restaurant to be honest. It feels like a workshop where people create. You might come here for the food, but you will definitely stay for the artistic experience. Follow their Facebook page to know about the latest events.

GETTING THERE
From Cubao Araneta, head to the UV terminal near EDSA, right beside Jollibee and Puregold. Get on a van to SSS and alight at Concepcion. Landmark is Lolo's Crispy Pata and Sisig. To get to DITO, take a right turn, opposite Lolo's, and walk until you see the signage.

Alternatively, there are jeepneys bound for Concepcion that pass by Marcos Hi-way (SM Marikina, Sta. Lucia, Robinsons Metro East).
