taza restaurant tagaytay

'Tis often true that the best is saved for last. It was no different during our gastronomic staycation over at Taal Vista Hotel where we got to try the delectable fanfares of its trio of restaurants.

Before we head home, we were treated to brunch over at Taza: Fresh Table. And, oh boy, were we in for a treat.

Taza is located on a separate gazebo-like structure not too far from the Lobby Lounge. The walls are made mostly from glass and the interiors exude an intimate atmosphere. The place is definitely cozier than Taal Vista's other two restaurants.

Serving "garden-to-table vegetables, handmade pasta and sauces, and meat smoked right in its kitchen", Taza whips up a bevy of innovative spins on international dishes. Our group got to try most of the items on the menu like the famous Taza Salad, and whole lot of other delicious dishes.

I'm a huge fan of hollandaise sauce so the Eggs Benedict with ham (Php450) was a hit for me. It comes with fresh greens, and homemade fries. Aside from ham, you can pair this with bacon (Php550) or smoked salmon (Php565).

The Taza Salad (Php390) has Cebu dried mangoes, quinoa, wild arugula, farm-fresh romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes, radish, beets and a tarragon-white wine vinaigrette dressing. This was extremely refreshing. I imagine it to be the perfect palate-cleanser.

A large chunk of Ribeye Wagyu steak take up most of the plate of Steak and Eggs (Php995). There's also a side of fries and veggies. The steak was flavorful and very tender.

Served with waffles and maple syrup, the Southern Fried Chicken (Php395) was crispy and a perfect combination of sweet and salty. It was good ol' comfort food at its best.

There's also the French Toast (Php310) which didn't look like your usual toast. It was topped with heaps of bacon, candied walnuts, and caramelized bananas so, you know, win-win.

Second among my favorite dish was the Homemade Bacon (Php350) which is a pair of pork slabs cured in 10 days and smoked in 6 hours! No wonder it was sooooo so good.

Meanwhile, the Tomahawk Porkchop (Php800) stole the show with its massive serving. It could probably feed two to four people. It tasted just as good as it looked. The juices bursting with every bite. This was my favorite of all the dishes served that day.

The Wagyu Burger (Php650), made from ground Bukidnon wagyu and served with Tagaytay romaine lettuce and mozzarella cheese, kind of disappointed me. I thought it wasn't juicy enough and I found the flavors lacking. My companions liked it though, so it was probably just me. (Burgers and fries are difficult these days – WOTG has set the bar too high.)

Serving time could take a while but as soon as the food gets to your table, you'd forget all about the waiting. Your eyes would get to eat before anything else. The plating is gorgeous and does justice to the taste.

Again, this place would require you to shell out a week's worth of grocery budget but you won't feel scammed at all here. You get what you pay for and at Taza, you'll feel like you paid for a meal meant for innocent, pure souls.

My "gastronomic staycation" companions and I might disagree on a lot of things, but it was a consensus that of all Taal Vista's restaurants, Taza was the best. That really speaks much about the quality of food here. Sure, a meal here would leave you eating nothing but instant noodles for the rest of the month, but I say, if you're going to blow your hard-earned money, it better be on experiences worth telling, and/or exceptional food. Taza definitely qualifies as both.
