6 Of the Best Hotels in Indonesia

celineism

During my 12-day Trip of Wonders in Wonderful Indonesia last September, I was able to experience some of the best accommodations this country has to offer. While we backpackers often opt to stay in hostels and lodges first and foremost for budget reasons, there’s definitely no harm in spending some time in more, for lack of a better term, luxurious places when given the chance (and budget permits). Because, sometimes, the weary wanderer can do with some fresh linens and a bathtub, here are, in no particular order, six of Indonesia’s best hotels:

1. Mercure Hotel Jakarta
Jakarta

What I love most about Mercure Hotel is the cozy vibes it affords. All the comings and goings of the bustling metropolis seem to die down once you step inside. The ambient lighting of the rooms is very comforting – perfect for when you’re tired from a 5-hour flight. But perhaps the best thing about this hip hotel (it has a Mac in the lobby available for guests to use!) aside, of course, from the delicious breakfast buffet, is its strategic location. It’s just a few minutes from some key spots in the city, most notably the train station. When you’re transiting to, say, Bandung via train the next day, you’ll thank the hotel gods you stayed at Mercure Hotel, especially after finding out that traffic in these parts is as dumbfounding as that in Manila. 2. Sheraton Hotel and Towers
Bandung

Sheraton is a personal favorite. From the beautiful white facade of the hotel to the picture-perfect pools, this property is just designed so tastefully. The lobby is artfully decorated and the rooms are top-notch. The restaurant also serves a buffet with a wide selection of yummy dishes – from traditional to international fanfare. The modern color scheme of the hotel – mostly white, a bit of pink and turquoise – also makes for a very photogenic background. (Click here for the best rates to Sheraton.)

3. Royal Ambarrukmo
Yogyakarta

Royal Ambarrukmo is a 5-star hotel with a legendary reputation. It was once the residence of Yogyakarta’s royal family! Imagine sleeping under the same roof as kings and queens! The hotel has beautiful rooms, an incredible view of the Yogyakartan cityscape, and a nice garden by the pool. Don’t forget to request for a tour of the property to get a glimpse and feel of the royal family’s lifestyle. Make sure also to witness the traditional tea ceremony that is fit for royalty! (Click here for the best rates to Royal Ambarrukmo.)

This 4-star hotel offers travelers sleek and modern comfort right at the heart of Lombok. You’ll also get to have a swept of quasi-rural landscape from your room’s window where the sunrise and sunset are just incredible! (Click here for the best rates to Golden Tulip.)

6. Alila Seminyak
Bali

Alila Seminyak is one of the premier resorts in Bali (and the most luxurious hotel I’ve ever stayed in so far). This sprawling property is literally just a few steps away from the Indian Ocean and has facilities even the pickiest of people will surely love. My room here was bigger than our living room and kitchen combined. Plus, the toiletries are exquisite, smelling of lemon – way to exude tropical feels! Oh, it also has not one, not two, not even three, but five (yesss!) infinity pools! How about that! (Click here for the best rates to Alila Seminyak.)
