Bantay Abot Cave is Really a Mountain with a Hole

Tuesday, April 15, 2014

The words Bantay Abot is Ilocano for “mountain with a hole.” If you happen to be in the place, you'll find that there is indeed a "hole". So hooray for the no-nonsense naming of things and places!

Aaaaaaanyway...

Accessible only during early in the morning, when the tide is low, the Bantay Abot Cave is a thrilling Pagudpud sidetrip. Its rock façade, in contrast to the Kapurpurawan Rock Formations, is a mix of different shades of brown.

If the possibility of falling to your doom or being taken by giant waves doesn't bother you, then you will surely have a number of great pictures to take home with you.

Examples:

Great shot
"Look up!"
Tadaaa!
The waves are coming!
The "hole"
Looks like a portal to another dimension
I like this shot!
But this one's my favorite! :)

Even though I really don’t consider the Bantay Abot Cave an actual cave, I found joy in listening to the waves crushing against the rocks.

There is a special kind of thrill in knowing that one wrong step and you’ll tumble down to your death and/or drown in the vast waters. Or perhaps be taken to the realm of mermaids.

Exciting!

Cheers to the next adventure!
