Our rainy dip at Maquinit Hotspring only made me hungrier. Even with clubhouse sandwiches courtesy of Sophia's Garden, I was still famished. I needed a proper meal. And so, on we went to the Viewdeck Grill House.

THE PLACE
Situated on a hill that provides a 360-degree view of the whole of town along with the Coron Bay and Uson Island, the Viewdeck Grill House affords a dining experience both for the eyes and the stomach. Too bad it was already dark when we get there.

Nevertheless, the place still gave off a laidback island vibe. The airy structure coupled with the tasteful accents – burnished wooden tabletops and kitschy lamps – add to the chill atmosphere.

The place can comfortably accommodate up to 70 people. And fret not if you have one drink too many as there is a well-maintained toilet.

THE FOOD
The Viewdeck is fairly new to the local Coron culinary landscape, having opened just late August of this year. Even so, the grub hub had already commanded quite a decent following. What reeled them in? Primarily, it's the bistro's signature flame-grilled burger with fried chicken fillet. The dish is touted as the best burger in town!

For our visit, however, we didn't get to try the best-selling dish. Instead, we were served a set menu which included a couple of rich soups for appetizers and hearty, filling main courses.

We had a choice between Tomato, Herb, and Cheese Soup, and Cream of Mushroom Cheese Soup. Both were covered in pastry. Both were creamy and flavorful. I prefer the tomato soup with the cheese – the tang of the tomato went well with the slightly sharp taste of the cheese (forgot to ask what the cheese was).

The soup came with classic Buffalo wings served with pesto and sour cream sauce. The plates were cleaned off in an instant. It was that good.

For the entrée, we had Country-style Fried Chicken which was a crispy dose of heaven. It was tender and you could just spot the hint of buttermilk from the skin. It was addictive.

There's also the Shepherd's Pie, and lasagna.

We also got to try the grill platter, consisting of a variety of barbecued items such as shrimp, pork, chicken, and fish.

For dessert, we had a duo of cakes – tiramisu, and cheesecakes. Perfect way to end the meal!

I thoroughly enjoyed everything. It was just what I needed. I paired everything with a bottle of ice cold Smirnoff Mule – which you can order from the Viewdeck's bar, along with beers and other beverages. It was a great way to cap off our first day in Coron.

THE SERVICE
Even with the drizzly weather, the people over at the Viewdeck made us feel toasty with their service, offering hot beverages and being prompt with granting our requests for refills.

The food was presented beautifully and tasted great. Add in the fact that the place affords an al fresco set-up where one can dine while taking in a stunning backdrop and breathe in fresh brine-tinged air, and you've got the formula for a sure hit.

FINAL THOUGHTS
I could see why the Viewdeck had become a go-to foodplace despite being just a newbie in the game. I mean, who could say no to great location, excellent and beloved comfort food, and warm service?
