celineism

Recently, I got the opportunity to guest on GMA News TV's "Good News with Vicky Morales." Together with Mae Ilagan, foodie and PR Director of When In Manila, I take viewers to three out-of-town adventures supposedly under Php250.

Watch the episode here: 250-Peso Adventures by Good News

With the intention of dispersing the "misleading title," (as pointed out by a YouTube commenter) here is a fairly detailed guide to the three destinations featured in that segment.

TINIPAK RIVER AND CAVE

Tanay, Rizal

mount daraitan
The trek to Tinipak River from the Barangay Hall is more or less an hour

How to Get There

From Shaw, take a jeepney bound to Tanay. Get off at Tanay Public Market. Take a Sampaloc-bound jeep and alight at the dropoff to Mount Daraitan. Alternatively, you can take an LRT to Santolan and take a Tanay jeepney there.

This option will require you to take a very very long walk from the dropoff. Perhaps an hour trek before you even reach the parking area! Also, jeepneys that'll take you back to the Tanay Public Market is rarer than an honest boyfriend.

So, my suggestion? Hire a tricycle from the Tanay Public Market that'll take you to and fro Daraitan.

Anyway, after arriving at the parking area, ride a raft across a portion of the Tinipak River. Once across, take a tricycle to the Barangay Hall.

Expenses

Option 1 (with the very very long walk from the dropoff)
Jeepney Fare Shaw vv Tanay Public Market (TPM) - Php50 x 2 = Php100
Jeepney Fare TPM vv Sampaloc - Php28 x 2 = Php56

Option 2 (Hire a tricycle. Recommended!)
Jeepney Fare Shaw vv Tanay Public Market (TPM) - Php50 x 2 = Php100
Tricycle - Php500 to Php1000 (depending on number of passengers and your haggling skills)

Balsa Ride - Php5 x 2 = 10
Tricycle fare Parking vv. Brgy Hall - Php10 x 2 = Php20
Environmental Fee - Php20/head
Tour Guide Fee (Dayhike) - Php500
Tour Guide Fee (Overnight) - Php1250
Note: 1 tour guide for every 10 visitors
Photoshoots, etc. - Php500/day
Headlight Rental - Php30
Lomi with egg - Php35
Lomi - Php25

Concerns

A brief orientation by the tour guide will be conducted
The "dayhike" includes a hike to Mount Daraitan and a traverse to Tinipak River and Cave in one day

How to Get There

There are buses in Alabang, Buendia, Pasay, and Cubao bound for Sta. Cruz,  Laguna. From Sta. Cruz, take a jeepney and get off at "Bodega" in Brgy. San Salvador.

Expenses

Jeepney Fare Sta. Cruz vv. Bodega - Php25 x 2 = Php50

AMOR BEACH RESORT

Naic, Cavite
amor beach resort
It's not a white sand beach, but it's pretty close to Metro Manila

How to Get There

From Pasay, take a bus to Naic and get off at the bus stop. Take a tricyle to Amor Beach Resort.

Expenses

Bus Fare Pasay vv Naic - Php64 x 2 = Php128
Tricyle Fare Bus Stop vv Amor - Php15 x 2 = Php30
Entrance Fee - Php50
Buko - Php25

Concerns

The beach is not that appealing, but the ambiance is truly relaxing. Good for family or barkada bonding, but wouldn't recommend for swimming
Pang-masa, take from that what you will
